Food service on BMI connectors to CDG from LHR
Filed under: xn--fcs741fqka.com — smith @ January 6, 2009 edit
  • I will be travelling business class next month on these flights and wondering about the quality of food service.

As one of the low carb regime converts, any advice as to whether I should order a special meal and what type.

  • The reason for the AC forum is BMI is the connector airline for Air Canada ergo the excellent advice.

  • if I've forgotten about what the issue was! :D).
How about not getting the AP miles credited that they owed us? ;)
Mine did appear two months late - after sending the ticket and all boarding passes - and two complaint letters. There was even a bonus for one direction.

  • And what does this thread have to do with Air Canada? :p.

On a more serious note, the bmi (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=486) forum might shed some light on this question...

  • In Business class you will get a small cold meal. This is generally a salad or a small pasta dish (unattractively wrapped in plastic!). The portion is relatively small. In addition, you will get a few snack items in the pack, including a Nestle chocolate bar (miniature size), a dessert item (usually healthy - a fruit salad or apple slices),

The exception to the above is if you are travelling on a morning flight (departing LHR or CDG before 9am). In that case, you are likely to get a hot "Full English Breakfast" - English bacon, scrambled egg, sausage). Alternatively, you may get the same style of meal as usual, but served with a hot bacon panini (toasted flatbread sandwich).

In short, the main course is not designed for the Atkins diet!

This is backed up with a (very full) drinks service - a range of wines, fruit juices, soft drinks and champagne. Tea and coffee is also served.

The worst thing on these flights is that you rarely have time to eat and drink everything offered - flying time is only 45 minutes!

  • you will get a shoe box :D
Back in April I got an op-up from LHR-CDG. Before taking off I asked my neigbour about the avantage of flying J when the J and Y pitch are the same. He said "instead of getting a snack you get a shoe box!" and he was true.
    I have photos.
I will post them when I get home in 5 1/2H and you will see what I am talking about.
For 36mn in the air, it is very good.

  • I wasn't aware of no cross-posting. I am now, thank.

By the way, BMI gave me a very detailed response in their forum for those interested.

  • I was in business class on BMI from LHR to CDG in July on a flight that was supposed to leave at 10:30 but left more like 11:15.

I remember we had a curried rice salad and a Cadbury chocolate bar, and I think a roll with butter. None of these appealed to me. But I just remembered, I think there were some sliced apples and grapes, which was all right.

  • Here are the long awaited photos

    and Y snack!

    Like the shoe box :D

  • The off-topic of BMI recalls my problems with travel on their only transatlantic flight from Canada, which is an AC codeshare - MapleLeaf kindly sent me information on whom to contact in Canada (the North America phone number only works in the USA). So I did and got a very nice reponse from the sales agent in Canada who wrote in response that she'd forward my message to head office. Which led to no response from the head office. So I wrote to the Canada-BMI person again and she wrote to the head office again. Now two of us are waiting in silence, again.

  • It's not a diet. It's an "eating lifestyle" :D :D :D ROTF LMAO :D :D :D

    Priceless :D :D :D

  • When I flew it last year, I never even got a meal - just a small snack (plus booze).

    My thoughts exactly.

Okay - I was getting jealous because BMI never answers me (see above) yet "United935" posts for BMI? Strange, no? Hmmm - could you have gotten that answer by some other means? Okay - go to flybmi.com and go to the food service web page (http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/travelinformation/onboardourflights/mealsonboard.aspx). Might United935 have copied it for you without acknowledging the source? JohnOClark posted on the BMI forum "Wow.Is that service! I never have seen a response from someone at another airline respond on-line with such detail. Thanks." Now write to the president of United and thank him for the response. I am sure he will appreciate it. ;)

Well, there were a few other things from previous times. But yes. :D

I got my points finally after calling and faxing Aeroplan twice followed by an e-mail.

  • To clarify - I am not on a diet, but changed to an eating lifestyle of avoiding simple Carbohydrates.

    It's not a diet. It's an "eating lifestyle" :D :D :D ROTF LMAO :D :D :D

  • Let's get this straight - you are on a diet, but worried about what kind of food you will get on a 30min flight? :D

To clarify - I am not on a diet, but changed to an eating lifestyle of avoiding simple Carbohydrates.

I ask the question because I tend to plan what and when I eat and the elapsed time more like 2 hours over lunch between waiting and flying.

  • I think Donnington Hall has to work on its communication skills. I've previously had issues with not hearing back from them. Of course, I gave up because my time was more valuable and the issue wasn't a big enough of a deal (obviously not if I've forgotten about what the issue was! :D).

  • If you're interested in a decent meal and paying for C, then why not take the Eurostar instead? You'll save time. and money, and get real food. Unless you've been on the moon, even European airlines are cutting back on their intra-European catering.

  • It's probably best to pack some mixed nuts and then you'll be all set for your low-carb snack. You can probably pick up something suitable at Heathrow too.

Well, he did cross post -- which might I add, you're really not supposed to do...

Same thing this year (early summer).
